The tradition of writing a letter to Santa is well established. a typical letter will contain a ‘wish-list’ or ‘what I want for Christmas’ together with a declaration of good behaviour! There are many organisations offering to take care of these letters on your behalf for a small fee but there are some free alternatives.
Free Santa Letters
Royal Mail
Each year the Royal Mail handles over 750,000 letters to Santa from youngsters around the UK. All Santa’s mail is handled by the National Return letter Centre which spends most of it’s time trying to track down the intended recipient of the thousands of badly addressed or damaged mail items passing through the Royal Mail’s system throughout the year.
Perhaps in an effort to cut costs the Royal Mail seems less inclined to publicise this service of late, but they will indeed make sure that each letter to Santa is answered in time for Christmas.
Children wanting to write to Santa should put their letter in an envelope and affix either a 1st or 2nd class stamp and address to Santa at:
Santa/Father Christmas
Santa’s Grotto
Reindeerland
SAN TA1
In order to avoid disappointment you should send your letters as early as possible.
Email Santa
For the more technically minded or impatient youngsters there is a useful service based in Canada where you can email your letter to Santa.
Email Santa began in 1997 as a result of a postal strike in Canada which prevented many of the traditional Santa letters from being answered in time for Christmas. Within a few weeks the service was receiving over 1000 requests a day! Now, email Santa counts the number of emails received in the millions!
The service is entirely free and the site has a comprehensive privacy policy as well as strict code of practice and requests as little information as possible.
The site is well established in the US and is listed on DMOZ the most respected internet directory. the site has also been featured on Miles Mendoza’s Website of the Day on Radio2
